Diesel Generators: Prepare a Clear Power-Needs Enquiry

This SA Auction Market buying guide helps you prepare a clear enquiry about diesel generators in South Africa. Use the actual listing and model documentation to resolve important details before ordering.

List what you want to supply

When comparing diesel generators, start with a list of the equipment you intend to power and its manufacturer specifications. Identify which items need to operate together. Generator selection requires attention to both running and starting demand; Honda's wattage guide presents these separately. Use actual equipment information instead of assuming a single advertised rating settles the choice.

Ask a qualified installer to assess the system

Provide the load list and site details to a qualified electrical professional. Confirm the required supply arrangement and how the generator will be connected. Installation, ventilation, exhaust and changeover arrangements need appropriate professional assessment. Do not connect a generator to a building supply using an improvised method or treat a buying guide as an installation instruction.

Compare the exact supplied unit

Request the make, model, rating information and identification plate. Ask whether the listing includes controls, enclosure, cables or other accessories. For used equipment, request available service records, running-hour information and disclosed faults. Clarify any demonstration offered and what it establishes. Record unresolved technical questions alongside the advertised price.

Include the practical costs

Discuss delivery, unloading, commissioning, maintenance and fuel arrangements before ordering. Consider the available installation area and service access with your installer. Avoid promises about runtime, noise or operating cost unless they are supported for the exact model and conditions. A complete enquiry makes it easier to compare the generator package with your site's documented requirements.
